The Future?

With youth work ever evolving programmes are changing all the time.  There is a current increase in digital programmes including coding, social media creation and website design. Youth work doesn't have to happen in a centre it can be wherever young people and youth workers are.

Is it is a possibility that youth work could move to an online focus with training, group work and interaction happening digitally in addition to traditional face to face work?

With austerity having an increasing effect on youth work the need to address sustainability and ensure that the profession continues is essential. Sercombe (2004) discussed how youth workers are often “marginalised in professional teams, in professional consultations, or case management panels because their professional standing is not recognised by other professionals”. This means they are often left out of specialised discussion or the traditional youth work role is replaced by psychology or social work graduates In a bid to change this the CLD standards council promotes the essential role of professional CLD practitioner. This brings added value, qualifications, commits to recognised value, competences and ethics, meets statutory obligations, achieves public policy goals whilst committing to professional learning and allowing members to register as part of a recognised body.  The CLD directory is now online for open access so the crudentials of any youth worker can be checkout out directly.  If you are a practitioner and haven't already signed up the the CLD Standards Council then you do so right here!

"Working together to create new learning environments, both inside and outside of schooling, creates a possibility for young people to achieve their full potential as confident and successful learners and full citizens" (Coburn and Wallace, 2011 p.38)
